The Kiuyoyou Shrine in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom presents a unique puzzle titled Fire and Ice. Located in the Rowan Plain region north of Hyrule Ridge, this shrine challenges players to manipulate temperature mechanics using Link's Ultrahand ability. Mastering the interaction between melting ice and weighted pressure plates is essential to unlocking the inner sanctuary.
Finding the Kiuyoyou Shrine Location
Travelers can easily locate the shrine northeast of Lindor's Brow Skyview Tower along the main road. Its distinctive green glow makes it highly visible when exploring the Rowan Plain area. Reaching the shrine requires no special equipment or prerequisite side quests.
Upon stepping inside, players are greeted by jets of fire and a large ice block nearby. This setting immediately introduces the core mechanic of managing heat to adjust object size. Completing this trial grants a valuable Light of Blessing for character upgrades.
Solving the Initial Pressure Switch Puzzle
To begin the trial, use Ultrahand to grab the nearby block of ice and hold it near the fire jets briefly. You need to melt the ice down just enough so it fits onto the glowing orange floor switch on the left. Placing the resized ice on the switch opens the gate leading to the main chamber.
Once the gate rises, ride the rising air current in the next room using your paraglider. This draft carries Link up to an elevated platform where continuous streams of fire drop new ice blocks. Speed and precision become crucial during this secondary phase.
Protecting the Ice and Claiming the Treasure
On the upper platform, position the large metal plate using Ultrahand to shield falling ice blocks from the flames. Move a full-sized ice cube out of danger without letting it melt significantly. Attach the metal plate to the top of the ice block to construct a heat-resistant structure.
Before finishing the shrine, send an extra ice block down the spiky ramp to access the hidden treasure chest. Use the ice as a stepping stone or climbing point to reach the elevated alcove containing your reward. Exploring every nook ensures you do not miss valuable materials hidden inside.
Activating the Final Gate and Shrine Rewards
Slide your combined ice-and-metal contraption down the spiky slope back to the entrance chamber. Transport the structure directly beneath the initial fire jets where the heavy floor switch resides. The top metal plate blocks the direct flames while the weight of the ice depresses the heavy switch.
Once the heavy switch activates, the final bars retreat to reveal the innermost altar. Interact with the glowing sigil to receive your Light of Blessing and complete the shrine.
