The Devil You Know Starfield Quest Guide and Choices
Navigating the complex political landscape of Starfield requires players to make tough decisions that shape their journey through the Settled Systems. In the UC Vanguard faction storyline, the quest titled The Devil You Know presents players with high-stakes choices and intriguing character encounters. Understanding how to navigate this mission ensures you secure the best outcome while uncovering dark secrets buried deep within the United Colonies government.
Meeting Vae Victis in Subsection Seven
The mission begins when players are instructed to travel to the MAST building in New Atlantis to conduct a secret meeting. Descending into Subsection Seven brings you face-to-face with François Sanon, also known as Vae Victis, a former UC Admiral thought to be executed for war crimes. He offers valuable intelligence regarding the ongoing Terrormorph threat in exchange for your assistance in tracking down a rogue target named Dr. Reginald Orlase.
Tracking Down the Warlock in the Wolf System
To locate Dr. Orlase, players must travel to The Den in the Wolf System and consult with Captain Rayna Marquez. She points you toward a suspicious vessel named the Warlock lurking within a nearby asteroid field. Upon arriving, you must engage or disable the enemy ship while navigating hazardous space debris and active defense turrets.
Players can choose to destroy the Warlock immediately or target its engines using precision weapons to board the vessel. Regardless of your approach, Dr. Orlase commits suicide before he can be taken alive, ensuring he cannot be interrogated. You must recover his UC ID card from his body or ship debris as official proof of his demise.
Delivering Evidence and Quest Outcomes
After acquiring the necessary proof, return to New Atlantis and deposit the ID card into the transfer system at Subsection Seven. Vae Victis will acknowledge your success and provide the location of another key researcher named Kaiser to continue your investigation. Completing this objective advances the UC Vanguard narrative and opens up further options regarding how you handle Vae Victis's secret existence in future missions.
